H-3 Tour Sparks
Rousing Participation
|
Nineteen gleaming Porsches. Thirty-eight excited people. A crystal-clear
April morning. A billion dollar freeway with vast, open stretches
and breathtaking mountain and ocean vistas. Put them all together
and what do you get? The inaugural PCA-Hawaii H-3 Tour! The brainchild
of V.P. Darryl Lee, thanks to his vision and planning, and the
efforts and participation of many club members, the first ever
H-3 run surpassed all expectations.
The Porsches began streaming into Lagoon Drive assembly point,
adjacent to Honolulu Airport's Reef Runway, before 9:30 on sapphire-blue
Sunday, April 30, 2000. Soon nineteen cars stood in glistening
array. After a driver's meeting hosted by Darryl and President
Mike Cripps, the tour began at 11 AM, with a parade of Porsches
stretching over a mile and a half along the H-3. Cars and drivers
later assembled for group photos at a scenic turnout near Kaneohe
Bay Drive. Then came a sumptuous lunch at Koolau Golf Club, to
top off a spectacular day. Hat's off to everyone who participated!
Special thanks to Marsha Lee for her assistance (and those awesome
911 cookies). Group and individual photos will be available
for all participants at the May meeting.
