In the spirit of the recent
holidays, we hope that the joy and peace of the season
remain with you and your respective families thoughout
the coming year. I would like to send a big Mahalo
to John and Joni Arafiles in appreciation for their
dedication and leadership in 2004. It was an especially
historic year, as it marked our 45th Anniversary in
the islands. As we look back at all the events of 2004,
we will surely appreciate and cherish them with special
memories of a great year. I am indeed privileged to
serve as the President of PCA-HI in 2005, the 46th
year of the Hawai‘i Region.
I want to congratulate the other officers who will
be joining me in providing yet another exciting year
of festivities to our membership. I especially want
to congratulate the new officers, Chip Hughes - this
year’s Vice President who will also maintain
his chores as Newsletter Editor and PCA-HI Region Website
Liaison, John Gschwend ? Secretary, and Scott Schulte
- Safety Chairman. Their active participation, technical
expertise, and years of allegiance to the care and
feeding of Porsches and PCA-HI Region makethem all
highly qualified to serve you in these capacities.
And, of course, the incomparable Richard Lau, Craig
Wood, and Ray Frietas will continue on in their respective
jobs as Treasurer, Membership Chairman, and Newsletter
Graphics Editor. As the year of the Rooster unfolds,
we intend to bring you more innovation excitement with
all our club events.
We encourage your participation in these events and
in the bi-monthly membership meetings. Your specific
input into the discussions that dictate the direction
of the club will serve to improve our club as a whole.
Our great team of officers intend to keep you on the
edge of your seats with new ideas that will change
our events to make them more interesting, more challenging
and, therefore, more enjoyable. For example, John Gschwend
will be coordinating a rally-type event, which will
require not only your driving skills, but also your
tactical and strategic problem-solving skills in meeting
the requirements of the course. Darryl Lee from Porsche
of Hawaii promises to"WOW" us with a Tech
Session that will get us thinking about upgrading,
and Sun and Scott Schulte will bring about that October
Fest event that slipped our grasp last year. These
are only a few of the exciting changes that we plan
this year. Even other events such as the Sweetheart
Run, Food Bank Drive, Toy for Tots, and Xmas Party
will have twists that will be make them very different
from the traditions of past years.
Remember, the club exists solely for benefit of its
members and we’re asking for your increased involvement
in this year’s slate of events. We promise you
a great year! So, come out and enjoy a new experience
with the New Year. Again, I appreciate the opportunity
to lead the club and share in our successes in the
coming year. Let’s start together with our first
event of the year, the Sweetheart Run to the North
Shore on the 13th of February.
