GOOD
NEWS FOR 356ERS!!
By Terry Felts
Vice-President, Hawaii Region
|
In addition to PCA events, 356 owners
now have another venue for enjoying the pleasures of Porsche
ownership. In late November a group of owners met on the
windward side of Oahu to form the latest owner's group
in the 356 Registry. Beginning in 2001, the Hawaii
356 Owners Group became a reality with a total membership
of 30 enthusiastic members.
While this group represents many diverse
interests, the central theme appears to be the maintenance
and preservation of their classic automobiles. A quick look
at the list of members immediately highlights many years
of restoration, racing, and ownership experience. Linus
Pauling, Jr. and Bernard Chung are two of our members who
started their association with Porsche in the mid-fifties.
Early gatherings have been informational and social in nature,
but beginning in February the focus will change to include
many technical/mechanical topics including the complete
restoration of a '61 B Roadster. So, if you have a 356,
regardless of condition, membership in this dedicated group
can be very beneficial.
Reportedly there are in excess of 50
classic Porsches locally and we are well on our way in contacting
the owners, but our goal is to represent every 356 owner
in our state. If you know any 356 owners, please not only
encourage them to get involved in Hawaii Region PCA
activities, but also make them aware of this new and exciting
organization dedicated exclusively to their particular car.
Information regarding the Hawaii
356 Owners Group and membership can be obtained by contacting
Terry Felts at 396-6017 or e-mail at wtfelts@aol.com.

Growing
with Commitment:
Great Events in 2001!
by Darryl Lee
President, Hawai'i Region
|
Getting involved this year is our way
to show appreciation to the Porsche Club of America. Our
Hawai'i Region is growing. We have proven this last year,
as our events were a tremendous success. At several events
we had over 25 Porsches displayed for all to see. We caravaned
throughout the islands -- H-3, Pali, Hawaii Kai -- to show
our strength as a respectable Porsche Club. We displayed
at Kahala Mall and mesmerized the patrons with style and
class. Our annual Concours held at Aloha Tower spoke for
itself, as tourists and vendors marveled at our German machines.
Our contribution to Toys for Tots was significant among
charitable organizations.
The feedback that I and others have received
from these events was overwhelmingly positive and a sign
that we are headed in the right direction. It's not so much
the recognition but the camaraderie that is built between
members, independents, and dealers. The bond that has been
the nucleus brings out all types of individuals with different
interests to combine their efforts in exchanging valuable
information to aid in the upkeep and performance of our
Porsches.
I thank each and every one of you who
have participated, and look forward to all members to join
us this year 2001. You will find a complete list of this
year's tentative events in this newsletter, beginning in
March with the "Porsche Swap Meet" which is described
in more detail below.
Porsche Swap
Meet has been postponed. The new location will
be in Waikiki at the Kapiolani Park next to the newly renovated
Waikiki Bandstand. Details to TBA. Our target date will
be this summer June 3, 2001 Sunday.
